Georgetown Community Hospital Opens Chemotherapy Infusion Suite

10/30/2009

Georgetown Community Hospital has expanded its cancer services with the addition of a chemotherapy infusion suite. There are six private infusion rooms, each equipped with comfortable chairs for the patient and a visitor, as well as a television. The types of infusion available include chemotherapy, IV fluids, blood transfusions and support drugs such as Reclast®, Zometa® and IV antibiotics.

“We built the infusion suite so people in this area could stay close to home while they undergo chemotherapy,” said Barry Papania, Georgetown Community Hospital CEO.

The suite is staffed with two RNs with over 30 years combined experience in oncology and chemotherapy infusion. Oncologist Jim Morgan, M.D., will be providing medical supervision. Dr. Morgan will see patients for all types of cancer and will provide outpatient care and follow-up treatment in his clinic.

“We paid special attention to making the suite comfortable for our patients,” said Dianna Kouns, manager of the infusion suite. “The chairs are comfortable, the colors are soothing and our staff is ready to meet the needs of our patients.”

Georgetown Community Hospital is a 75-bed acute care facility with an award-winning history of providing excellence in health care. The hospital has been ranked one of the “Best Places to Work in Kentucky” four out of the last five years.
