Advanced Medical Technologies

Are you interested in the new medical technologies we offer?

Georgetown Community Hospital has state-of-the-art equipment that will help assess your healthcare needs.

Georgetown Community Hospital

Arthroscopy
During this minimally invasive procedure, new imaging cameras and monitors enable surgeons to clearly see into joints to diagnose and repair orthopedic problems.

Barium Enema (BE)
A Barium Enema, sometimes referred to as a "BE," is an X-ray procedure that provides a detailed look at your colon.

Blood Banks
Georgetown Community Hospital receives blood products from the Central Kentucky Regional Blood Center. These blood products are collected from volunteer donors and then fully tested to ensure each blood product is safe to transfuse. The blood bank follows practices recommended by AABB (formerly the American Association of Blood Banks) and is AABB accredited. The blood bank staff is educated and certified to perform testing and to make decisions regarding the selection of blood products for patients. Patients are carefully identified when samples are collected from them for the testing that is performed, to ensure that any blood product they are given will be compatible and will provide the intended benefit.

Blood Gas Analyzers
Blood Gas Analysis is an assessment of the oxygenation of arterial blood and the blood's acid-base balance.

Bone Densitometry
Bone Densitometry involves an extremely small dose of radiation and is used to help diagnose osteoporosis.

Computed Sonography
Also known as "Ultrasound," this test examines a number of organs in the body. The ultrasound machine uses high-frequency sound waves to echo off the body to create a picture. Pregnant women often have an ultrasound to determine the health of the baby in the womb.

CT Scan
The Georgetown Community Hospital state-of-the-art, high-speed CT Scanner uses a computer to image cross-sectional slices of your body, creating an exceptionally clear, detailed picture with spiral (helical) imaging. It has a large opening, maximizing patient comfort and reducing anxiety levels.

Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP)
A contrast material that absorbs X-rays is injected into the bloodstream. The contrast material concentrates in the kidneys, and a series of X-rays is taken at timed intervals as the contrast material goes through the kidneys, the tube from the kidneys to the bladder, and the bladder.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Magnetic Resonance Imaging or MRI is an advanced, state-of-the-art method which produces very clear pictures or images of the human body without the use of x-rays (ionizing radiation). MRI uses a large, high-field strength magnet to produce these images.

Mammography (ACR Accredited)
Georgetown Community Hospital is an FDA certified facility providing full mammography services. A mammogram is a low energy X-ray of the breast, used to screen apparently normal breasts for irregularities or cancer. Early detection of breast cancer is known to save lives. Yearly mammograms are recommended for women 40 and over, though screening schedules should be determined by your physician.

Mammography X-ray Units
An X-ray of the breast used to detect tumors and cysts, and to help differentiate benign (non-cancerous) and malignant (cancerous) tumors. Mammograms are important in the early detection of breast cancer -- which can save a woman's life.

Micro Surgery Equipment
Surgery in delicate and (usually) small areas requires special instruments. We are fully equipped to perform ear surgeries and eye surgeries such as removal of cataracts.

Minimally Invasive Surgery
This surgery is designed to operate using the smallest possible incision and includes laparascopic, laparascopically assisted and endoscopic surgical procedures.

Nuclear Scan
Nuclear Medicine permits the study of organ function. The patient is given a radioisotope tagged to go to the part of the body being studied. Depending on the organ being studied, the radioisotope may be given by swallowing a capsule, inhaling a gas or by injection.

Physical Therapy
Physical Therapy provides a variety of treatments for patients suffering from injuries or muscle, nerve, joint and bone diseases to restore function, range of motion, relieve pain and prevent disability.

Upper GI Series (UGI)
This exam permits us to obtain a very clear, detailed X-ray of the esophagus, stomach and small intestine. The patient is given a flavored, chalky barium drink throughout the exam and x-rays are taken in different positions.
