Laura's Birthing Experience

September 17, 2025

Having had two previous c-sections, Laura Gancarz delivered both of her boys at Georgetown Community Hospital under the care of Dr. Flowers with the University of Kentucky Women’s Health OB/GYN. She and Dr. Flowers decided a VBAC was the right choice for her two most recent births. The smaller, more personal feel of Georgetown made her experience even more special. Nurse Kim stayed by her side during labor, offering constant support and attention. “I also had my doula with me, and the staff welcomed her as part of my birthing team. They followed my birth plan without any pushback, and I truly felt in control of my birth,” states Laura.

When her youngest son, Logan, arrived unexpectedly at 35 weeks, the nursing team remained calm and reassuring, creating an enjoyable birth experience despite the early delivery. “I couldn’t have asked for better care,” Laura said. “Everyone was so attentive and kind—I felt completely supported every step of the way.”

As a doula herself, Laura has worked in many hospitals, but Georgetown stands out. “Here, I am respected as part of the team, never seen as competition,” she said. “The staff truly involves a mother’s entire support team, and I feel seen and valued.” She describes Georgetown Community Hospital as an inclusive place where every voice in the birthing process is heard.

Laura’s journey—from patient to doula—reflects the compassionate and collaborative care that Georgetown Community Hospital strives to provide. Her story is a testament to the power of personalized care and the importance of honoring every birth journey.
