Georgetown Community Hospital Invests in Advanced Imaging with New 128-Slice CT Machine and Cardiac CTA Services
November 6, 2025
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – (November 6, 2025) – Georgetown Community Hospital is proud to announce a significant investment in advanced imaging technology with the installation of a new 128-slice bariatric CT machine, made possible through a nearly $1 million investment from Lifepoint Health. This state-of-the-art equipment enhances the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities, providing faster and clearer scans.
The upgraded technology also enables the hospital to launch Cardiac CT Angiography (CCTA) services, a cutting-edge, non-invasive imaging option that produces highly detailed images of the heart and blood vessels. CCTA uses the advanced CT scanner and a small amount of contrast dye to capture high-resolution views of the coronary arteries, allowing physicians to quickly identify blockages, assess heart health, and develop precise treatment plans—all without the need for invasive procedures.
“This technology represents a major step forward in how we can diagnose and manage heart disease in our community,” said Dr. Mahmoud Abualayem, Cardiologist at Georgetown Community Hospital. “By offering CCTA locally with the latest CT technology, we can provide patients with timely answers, reduce the need for more invasive testing, and deliver peace of mind for those at risk of heart disease.”
Patients who may benefit from CCTA include those who:
- Experience symptoms such as chest pain or shortness of breath
- Have a family history of heart disease
- Receive unclear or inconclusive results from a stress test
- Are at intermediate risk of heart disease and need further evaluation
There are also key benefits to CCTA that include:
- Provides precise, detailed imaging to detect blockages or heart issues
- Offers a quick, non-invasive evaluation without surgery while also reducing radiation exposure when compared to traditional nuclear testing
- Reduces the need for more invasive diagnostic procedures, such as cardiac catheterization
- Helps physicians create accurate and personalized treatment plans
- Reduces radiation exposure when compared to nuclear stress tests
