Georgetown Community Hospital Launches New Multidisciplinary Breast Program
August 13, 2025

GEORGETOWN, KY. (August 13, 2025) — Georgetown Community Hospital and Central Kentucky Cancer Care have launched a new Multidisciplinary Breast Program to provide comprehensive, personalized care for individuals diagnosed with breast cancer. This program brings together oncology experts to coordinate consultations, diagnostics, treatment and support—all in one location, close to home.
Located at 1140 Lexington Road in Georgetown, the clinic offers same-day appointments with Dr. Kent Taylor, Medical Oncologist, and Dr. Sarah Hayek, General Surgeon. This coordinated model helps reduce wait times, improves communication among providers and allows patients to move forward with a clear treatment plan. Dr. Laura Downes, Radiation Oncologist, also provides on-site care through Georgetown’s modern radiation therapy center, rounding out a truly collaborative, multidisciplinary approach.
“When patients first receive a diagnosis, they’re often overwhelmed with information and uncertainty,” said Dr. Kent Taylor, Medical Oncologist. “Our goal is to remove that stress by coming together as a unified team. By combining expertise across specialties, we give patients clarity, direction and the support they need to start treatment with confidence.”
When surgery is needed, the hospital uses advanced MOLLI® markers—tiny, wireless localization devices that guide surgical precision and improve patient comfort compared to traditional wire placement. These are placed by the interventional radiology team in close collaboration with Dr. Hayek. Most patients return home the same day following a lumpectomy, a breast-conserving procedure that removes only the cancerous tissue while preserving healthy breast tissue.
In addition to surgical and radiation care, patients have access to chemotherapy and infusion therapy through the hospital’s state-of-the-art infusion center, located on the same campus. A full range of support services is also available, including nutritional counseling with a registered dietitian, support groups for patients and families, financial counseling, emotional wellness resources, and dedicated care coordination throughout the treatment journey.
As a proud member of the UK Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network, Georgetown Community Hospital provides patients with access to additional cancer care resources, shared treatment protocols and opportunities to participate in clinical trials.
The launch of the Multidisciplinary Breast Program strengthens Georgetown Community Hospital’s mission to deliver high-quality, compassionate cancer care to Central Kentucky. With advanced technology, a skilled care team, and an emphasis on personalized support, the program ensures patients receive timely, comprehensive care without leaving their community.
